American Airways to cease flying to Dubuque, Islip, Ithaca, Toledo

American Airlines plans to drop service to 4 U.S. cities in September, together with Dubuque, Iowa, which can lose scheduled business air service altogether.

The Fort Value-based provider blamed the service cuts on a shortage of regional pilots. American, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines have every scaled again service between some smaller cities and their hubs, citing an absence of aviators.

Dubuque, Toledo, Ohio, and Islip and Ithaca in New York will every lose service from American on Sept. 7, after Labor Day. “We’ll proactively attain out to prospects scheduled to journey after this date to supply alternate preparations,” American stated in an announcement.

The airports had been served by American Airways’ regional airline subsidiaries. Final week, these carriers jacked up pilot wages in an effort to stem the shortfall, which comes after a number of airways shed aviators through the pandemic solely to be caught flat-footed when journey demand snapped again.

Holly Kemler, spokeswoman for Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Categorical Airport, stated the airport employees “are extremely disenchanted” by American’s resolution.

Kemler stated the airport remains to be served by sun-seeker-focused airline Allegiant.

American Airways stated the cities will nonetheless be served by flights at different airports which can be between 45 miles and 120 miles away.
